Region 1
FAMU (Tallahassee)
Region 4
Grandview Prep (Boca Raton) (24-1)
Grandview Prep without Isaac Sosa should still come away with the win. Our prayers are with him as he recovers from his surgery
at the beginning of the week. Altavious Carter should get the chance to step up and dominate. FAMU High did a good job of getting this far.
But, the season has been all about 3 teams and Grandview Prep took care of Choice Learning Academy (Miami) this past weekend.
The following game will find out what the Joe Dawson coached team is capable of!
Region 2
Orlando Christian Prep (21-2)
Region 3
Bradenton Christian (23-4)
Orlando Christian Prep has dominated 1A by demonstrating their strength by defeating 6A power teams. Bradenton Christian
might prove a challenge. But, it's doubful. Look for OCP to lay claim to the state title on Friday. There really is more to this team than Keith Clanton!
Region 1
Pensacola Christian (20-3)
Region 4
Sagemont (Weston)
Sagemont has had somewhat of a rough time getting to Lakeland. Pensacola Christian managed to take care of perenial
2A powerhouse Port St. Joe. It should be interesting to see if Sagemont can still claim to being the best in 2A. This would
not be a surprise if a Pensacola team comes and takes care of business. Come on, show some love for the little guys. They'll
need it! Sagemont will squeak by. This game will be closer than most think.
Region 2
Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville) (18-9)
Region 3
Community School (Naples) (20-6)
You always want to root for the underdog. Community School has proven themselves to be pretty darn good! But, who is going to stop
the likes of Wally Judge come Wednesday? Arlington Country Day has suffered through the loss of R.J. Wright. No surprise here if ACD pulls out the win.
Next step, Sagemont!
Region 1
Marianna (23-3)
Region 4
Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale)
Has Pine Crest proven themselves the best in 3A? How many times did they beat the Kenny Boynton led American Heritage Patriots?
Is everyone else playing for second place? Most likely.
Region 2
P.K. Yonge (Gainesville) (21-6)
Region 3
Dunbar (Fort Myers)
David Paulk showed something special back in December at the City of Palms. The sophomore can get it done. Commmon sense says
take P.K. Yonge. But, this is the upset in the making. Dunbar in the finals against Pine Crest.
Region 1
Washington (Pensacola) (21-3)
Region 4
Monsignor Pace (Miami)
Ask Florida Hoops in November who the number one team in Class 4A was and the easy response was Monsignor Pace. The Spartans have
struggled against upper echelon national teams. Even some Florida teams have shown that they are beatable. If there is one team that
can pull it out it is Washington out of Pensacola. Monsignor Pace will have a hard time with these guys. Another one of those heart
says Pensacola, common sense says Monsignnor Pace. Coch Lieberman should make the difference in a close one come Thursday.
Region 2
Eustis
Region 3
Kathleen (Lakeland)
Who would have thought that someone would be calling Kathleen an underdog? A solid starting five that includes Miguel Paul and
Kevin Foster. Can Eustis contain these two? Probably not. The big question, can the Red Devils take Monsignor Pace in the finals?
You'll have to wait until Thursday night to see the next set of picks.
Region 1
Gainesville (19-8)
Region 4
Dillard (Fort Lauderdale)
This is another classification that everyone is playing for second place. Dillard made quick work of their opponents in the first
three rounds. Don't let anything doubt you. This squad is for real. A front line that rivals some colleges. Kore White,
Bo Reliford, and Nigel Spikes with a complement of guards that rivals any team in the state. Gainesville will have their hands full.
We're not ready to claim Dillard state champions. But, it does look inevitable!
Region 2
Brandon (21-4)
Region 3
Lakewood (St. Petersburg)
One team finds themselves back in Lakeland again, Lakewood. A perennial star in junior Shamon Cox and the post play of Mike Morrison.
Brandon counters with their own post play in Evan Ravenal and guard Blake Allen. Just look at the teams that are not here,
Pinellas Park and Clearwater. Two pretty solid teams. Lakewood made short work of Pinellas Park and Brandon knocked off one of the two teams that
made the most noise in Class 5A in Lake Howell. The other team being Martin County. Give them their props for defeating state powerhouse W.T. Dwyer not once,
but twice and then running into Dillard. A hard fought battle and it looks like Lakewood in a tight game.
Region 1
Winter Springs (24-3)
Region 4
Miami Norland (21-6)
Another game that says go with your heart, the bottom line says to pick Winter Springs. Norland won it all in 2006 and just may find themselves
back in the finals this year. Norland has played some good games all season long. Don't let their record fool you. These guys are for real!
Winter Springs is playing some of the basketball in the state. This may just be the "upset" special in the making. So, yep,
we're taking Norland. The surprise will be when Winter Springs pull something out at the buzzer.
Region 2
Evans (Orlando) (21-7)
Region 3
Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes)
Boyd Anderson is another one of those "for real" teams. A complete squad at every position. They are only of two Florida teams to claim
victory over Class 5A Dillard. It would have been nice to be in the gym for that game. Can Evans prove themselves? They knocked off Olympia in district play.
Can they step up and knock our #1 ranked team in Class 6A? This is another of those "root for the underdog" games. At the end of the day,
Boyd Anderson should come out on top. An all South Florida championship game in 6A!
