Tournament Re-cap
2008 Showtime Baller's Showcase
We've never been crazy about the choice of calling an event a "ShootOut". Yes, the connotation is definitely basketball oriented. But, as of late, it's just not a great politically correct choice. So, enough with the delicacies. Let's get to what happened this weekend. This is Part One of a Two Part series. Look for Part Two in the next several days.

Spring Player Showcases
Hoop Mountain Spring College Exposure Classics
The 1st Annual Bradenton Spring Session was a great success. You can't go wrong with a stable of professionals from IMG Academy and an event that logistically stays on schedule the first time an event is held. Everything went smooth from the morning skills session and watching some high caliber college recruits play in the afternoon session. There were over 80 players in attendance and next week's Palm Beach Session (March 15) is closing in on that number.

State Tournament
FHSAA State Championship Series - State Finals
Boyd Anderson looks to be sealing the deal up 27 points with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. So, we'll go ahead and post our picks for tomorrow and Saturday's finals. Dunbar didn't pull off the upset so we'll have to settle for 11 out of 12 in the semifinals. A surprise awaits as the "Wright" player has made us change one of our picks to win a state championship.

State Tournament
FHSAA State Championship Series - State Semifinals
OK, so is it luck? Maybe. An impressive 21 out of 24 picks in the third round. Teams are ready for the Trip to Lakeland. Who is going to come out on top? Take a look at who we think are going to play for the championships this weekend.

State Tournament
FHSAA State Championship Series - Regional Finals
We're hovering around the 80% mark, but it's getting closer to 70%. The superstitious ways just continue to forego the thought of looking at the season rankings. It's a new season and it's one and done for everyone and anyone. We'll probably miss some games this time around to just picking what game is the upset in the making. Plus, it's been way too busy a week at work to focus for any length of time.
No talk, just picks!

February 15.
State Tournament
FHSAA State Championship Series - Regional Semifinals
Our accuracy was OK at almost 80% of the game winners. It's tough when you drop those cards and pick one up to determine a pick for a game. On a serious note, there was some good basketball happening last night. Some classifications had major upsets and others played out as we anticipated back in November. Yes, a couple of very big surprises. But, Tuesday is what the winning teams need to focus on. We're taking a different approach as the fog hasn't cleared on the crystal ball. So, we're going to the pick up sticks method for our semifinal picks.
There is definitely something to pick on with our selections!

February 14.
Spring Player Showcases
Hoop Mountain Spring College Exposure Classics
The showcases dates are coming up soon. The Bradenton Session (March 8) still has space available and the Palm Beach Session (March 15) is starting to fill up. Unsigned seniors, this is an opportunity to increase your exposure to college programs. The Daytona Beach Session (March 29) is a great chance to help those players in North Florida. Underclassmen are invited to attend each showcase.

Some major upsets at the district level in Class 6A has us gazing back to our crystal ball. Everyone knows upsets are bound to happen as teams make the push toward a place in Lakeland.

Florida Hoops found our way to Belleview High School this past Saturday for an outstanding annual tournament. The man to be commmended for this annual event is Vince Murray! Unfortunately, Vince was unable to attend the event as his health did not afford him the luxury to see some great basketball. So, please say a prayer for Vince and his family in these rough times.

Game of the Week
Olympia vs. Orlando Christian Prep
Rarely does a 6A team venture out to play a 1A team. Rarer still is when it is the top 6A team in the state taking on the top 1A team. And it is practically unheard of for that game to take place at the 1A school’s gym.
